Hi Folks!

The humble person receives grace from the Lord. That is an exciting thought
because if we can walk in God's grace for our life then we will be
victorious!

For the Lord delights in His people; He crowns the humble with victory Psalm
149:4
(NLT)

What is humility then? I haven't got a personal definition of what I think
humility is, but our Lord Jesus did say that He was humble and that we were
to learn of Him. See Matt 11:29. The most humble person ever was the Master
himself and if we will endeavor to imitate Him and follow His ways we will
learn the way of true humility. The scriptures declare that Jesus was full
of grace and truth. It's no wonder He could do all that he did in His short
earth walk because He was full of the mighty grace of His Father. It was not
automatically given to him because he was the Messiah, but because He humbly
walked in obedience and trust toward his Father God.

Brother Keith More has some outstanding teaching on this subject and much I
have learned has been from His teaching. He says that, "True humility is
walking in the truth; it is walking in reality." Well that certainly can be
said of the Lord Jesus Christ, as He is the most honest, real person that
ever walked the earth. He never told a lie or ever deceived anyone. He
always spoke the truth in love and never deceived anybody through speaking
half truths, part truths or exaggerating - all things that we have been so
prone to do. None of us are without sin because we have all lied and
exaggerated at some time - but not Jesus. Never. Praise God for our mighty
Saviour!

True humility is walking in reality. There is no falseness in humility,
whereas in its counterpart, pride, there is falseness. If we are going to
learn the way of humility then we can do well to study its counterpart to
help us better see what it really is and walk in it. Pride is the opposite
of humility and it is nature of the Devil. It was what was first found in
God's enemy Lucifer and it is what caused his fall. Pride is also at the
root of much of the evils we see in our world today as men yield to this
deadly evil, most of the time without even being aware of its deceptive
power. I say deceiving because if we were to recognize how evil and deadly
pride was we would do more to try and eradicate the ugly stuff from our
lives. It is the very nature of the Devil, and who wants that filthy stuff
in them?

Another reason we need to try and detect any areas of pride in our lives and
get rid of it, is because it is an enemy of God. The Bible declares that God
hates the rotten stuff...

These six things the Lord hates, yes, seven are an abomination to Him: A
proud look, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that
devises wicked plans, feet that are swift in running to evil, a false
witness who speaks lies, and one who sows discord among brethren
Prov
6:16-19

Notice that even a proud look God hates. Also in the verses above look at
the company it keeps in the things that God hates, and that it is on the
very top of the list! The word abomination is about as strong as you can say
it. It suggests that God absolutely detests pride with a pure hatred. We
would do good to make up our minds also, that if God hates it then so do I.

Pride is something that unless detected by a revelation of truth, it remains
hidden and can be the very thing that hinders us from receiving grace from
the Lord, which is needed for victorious Christian living in Christ. So it
would do us good to look further into it and find out how much of the stuff
we have in our lives, so that we can get rid of it by the grace of God. You
may be thinking that you have no problem with pride therefore have little
interest in finding out more about it. But you need to realize that we all
have pride to deal with so long as we are on the earth in this physical
body, because it was first handed down to us by our original parents when
they sinned in the garden. They yielded themselves to Satan and it remains
part of our flesh nature.

God resists the proud. I desire to be well pleasing to my God and the last
thing I want is Him resisting me because of the sin of pride. I'm sure you
feel the same way, so next time we will look more at what pride is and how
we can see if we are yielding to it, so that we can eradicate it.

Bye for now

David

Humility & Pride

Likewise you younger people, submit yourselves to your elders. Yes all of you be submissive to one another, and be clothed with humility, for "God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble". Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you
